What’s the IMS bearing?

The IMS (Intermediate Shaft) bearing is a small but critical component inside certain Porsche 911 engines, most notably some 996 and early 997 models.

Its job is to:
- Drive the engine’s camshafts
- Keep valve timing precise
- Allow the engine to run smoothly and reliably

Although it’s a relatively small part, it plays a central role in how the engine operates.

Why this site exists

When buying a pre-owned 911, IMS work is often:

- Claimed but not proven
- Mentioned verbally without paperwork
- Lost in old service history

This site exists to provide:
- Document-backed verification
- Clear, factual status for each car
- Confidence for both buyers and sellers
